  1. Which verses in 2 Peter have been the most meaningful to you? Why?
  2. Read 2 Peter 3:14. As Christians, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth. What are you looking forward to regarding heaven? How often do you think about going to heaven?
  3. Read 2 Peter 3:14; Philippians 2:12. These verses tell us to “make every effort…” and to “work out your salvation”. What role does your effort play in making you holy and spotless? What are we “doing” to make an effort; what are we working out (surrender, self-discipline, etc.)?
  4. Read 2 Peter 3:9,15. How does God’s patience mean salvation? What is the implication for the non-believer and the believer?
  5. Read 2 Peter 3:15-16. Why is it important that the Apostle Peter gave support to Paul’s writings in the New Testament?
  6. Read 2 Peter 3:17. What false teaching have you been tempted to believe? How did you determine it was false?
  7. Spend time in prayer, thanking God for His Word and the promised return of Christ.

  1. Read 2 Peter 3:13. What gives us confidence in someone’s promises? Give personal examples of people you trust because they fulfill their promises. Is there sufficient evidence for us to count on God’s promises?
  2. The Bible is full of promises that God has made. Name 3 promises that have been fulfilled. Find the scriptures that give the promise and the fulfillment.
  3. Which promises made by God have yet to be fulfilled? Name 3 with scripture references. What are some signs that God is getting ready to fulfill more promises?
  4. Give examples of God’s fulfilled promises in your life, with any relevant scriptures.
    Read Isaiah 65:17-25; Revelation 21:1-8. Which aspects of the new heaven and new earth do you look forward to the most?
  5. How does having something to look forward to help a person deal with their current circumstances? Give scriptural examples of characters in the Bible and personal examples from your life.

  1. Read 2 Peter 3:10-12. How does your knowledge of end times events affect your day to day decisions?
  2. Read 1 Corinthians 15:51-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:9. Pastor Jim presented the timeline of end times events as Rapture —> 7 year Tribulation —> Millennial Reign of Christ. Some Bible scholars say there is no Rapture of the Church. Others say the Rapture occurs in the middle or end of the Tribulation. How would a different timeline of events affect your behavior today?
  3. Read Isaiah 13:6-13; Joel 2:30-32; Zephaniah 1:14-18. What are some common descriptions of the Day of the Lord in these passages?
  4. Read 2 Peter 3:11; 1 Peter 1:13-16; Titus 2:12-15. What does it mean to you to “live holy and godly lives”? Give practical examples.
